Level Probe for Pressurized Tanks – DOCIL C 500 BTFO

The DOCIL C 500 BTFO probe is designed for pressurized tanks such as LPG spheres or liquefied gas tanks. It triggers an alarm as soon as a level threshold is reached, preventing overfilling and overpressure.

Level Probe for Pressurized Tanks – DOCIL C 500 BTFO

Benefits

  • Enhanced protection for pressurized tanks
  • Simplified maintenance: components located at the top of the probe outside the sphere
  • No human exposure to gas during maintenance phases
  • Fast and reliable detection thanks to the DOCIL optical sensor
  • Easy mounting on standard flanges (2”, 3”, etc.)
  • Customizable alarm levels according to site requirements
  • Up to 2 detection levels

Avantages

Installation

The probe is mounted on a 2” flange (1 sensor) or 3” flange (2 sensors). Installation requires no hot work on the tank and no invasive intervention.

The electronics are remotely located in the head via a fiber optic connection, ensuring safe separation between the process area and electronic components.

Technology

The sensor operates on an optical principle: a glass cone refracts or reflects light depending on whether it is submerged or not. When submerged, the system triggers an alarm. The technology is fully compatible with LPG and other liquefied gases, in ATEX environments.

Testability

  • Simulated Test System
  • No need for degassing or dismantling.

Options

  • DOCIL C 500 BTFO: 1 sensor (e.g. Very High Level – VHL)
  • DOCIL C 502 BTFO: 2 sensors (e.g. High Level – HL and Very High Level – VHL)
  • Customizable alarm threshold heights

Certifications

  • SIL 2 – Functional Safety
  • ATEX II 1 G Ex ia IIC T5 Ga – suitable for gas zones 0, 1, or 2
  • Operating temperature: -20 °C to +60 °C
  • Type certification: LCIE 03 ATEX 6105 X

Key information

  • Type of tank (sphere, LPG bullet, pressurized tank, etc.)
  • Number of desired alarm thresholds (1 or 2)
  • Alarm level heights
  • Flange specifications
  • Temperature, nature, and pressure of the stored product

Technology

DOCIL Sensor

The DOCIL sensor comprises a glass cone and an electronic circuit with, among other things, an infrared luminous signal transmitter and a receiver.

The DOCIL sensor works on the optical reflection/refraction principle.

When the glass cone is not immersed in the liquid, the optical signal is reflected entirely towards the transmitter.
Conversely, when the cone is immersed in a liquid (hydrocarbon), the luminous signal is refracted and the receiver no longer receives the signal, thereby triggering an alarm.
